Every one who knew Myrtie Langell called her Myrt and assumed that hergiven name was Myrtle. However, her marriage license and later censusdocuments all list her name as "Myrtie." Relatives who think her namewas Myrtle will just have to get use d to the fact that her name wasMyrtie and her middle name was Valerte.
Myrt was one of the strongest willed and talented women that thewriter has ever known. One would almost have to categorize her as a"character." If she were living today she would be a leader in thewomen's movement for equal rights. At a t ime when the women had barelywon the right to vote, she was active in county politics and wasinfluential in establishing policy of the Democratic Party. She had thedistinction of being named the first woman delegate to the DemocraticConvention. She had an equal or even stronger position in her churchactivities. I never knew her to be neutral on any subject. She alwayshad an opinion and you always knew what her position was. At a time whenautomobiles were just becoming a common part of every house hold, sheowned her own Huppmobile Coupe, which she did not hesitate to drivewherever she felt was necessary. With all of her activities she alwayshad time for family activities and was always available to help aneighbor.
