Notes for John H. Arnold

[master2.FTW]

[tree 102.FTW]

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 4, Ed. 1, Tree #0102, Date of Import: Mar 11, 2000]

Sarah Karn thought to be his 2nd wife by some.
One written source states "She was a member of the Dunkard Church and
a devout Christian woman.". Auother listing states United Brethren
Church. (The Brethren Church is the one my mother spoke of much.)

Joseph A. Bligh, 6/4/93
with much input from W.
Claude Lutman, Spring '79

John was a member of Captain Daniel Marker's Mountain Rangers during
the War of 1812, when the British came back to shoot up the new country.
John was assigned to this outfit from Aug 25 to Oct 27, 1914. He was 18
or 19 then depending on his birth date in 1795. This and more backup is
in "Frederick County Militia in the War of 1812" by Sallie A. Mallick
and F. Edward Wright. John was a Pvt.
Joseph A. Bligh, 6/20/93
thanks to inputs from Dr.
Howard G. Lanham, 6/15/93,
of Westminster, MD.
P.S.
The Ref. above shows no "H." middle initial. This leads to a possibility
that the John in W of 1812 was another John of the same age also from
Frederick County. Remember...Brethren people were pacifists. Editor F.
Wright even admitted same when queried by me.

John's mother is generally believed to be Elizabeth Slifer, a descendent
of the Revolutionary War fighter John Slifer. However, Ralph Martz, a
Frederick County genealogist, once came up with the notion that there
was a second wife, Julianna Easterday. He had trouble pinning it down
firmly when later questioned by Joseph Bligh. The primary reason Bligh
questioned him on this is that Ralph listed John H. as a son OF THE
SECOND WIFE, JULIANNA. Dr. Lanham may look into this.
J.A.B., 6/20/93

This HAS been looked into. Ralph was a bit mixed up. Easy to do with so many people with same names. Yes, there was a Julian/Julianna Easterday.
But she married David Arnold, John's brother, according to one source.
This could be true, but so far, I don't show a David(Jr) son of David
(1759). Now Lester Binnie DOES show the son David in HIS children list,
but then shows a Catherine as his wife, not Julian. Needs resolution.
