Notes for Hans Eymann

[master2.FTW]

Hans Eymann was born 26 Sept 1591 at Steffisburg, Bern, Switzerland.
He was one of the first Eymanns on which we have solid evidence that religious beliefs were entering into and altering the life style of the family.
In 1672, he and his son-in-law, Michael Kauffman of Lueg, Steffisburg, were fined and their property confiscated because of their Anabaptist activities. Please remember that in 1672, Hans would have been 80 years of age, a time in life when most people would be taking a more sedentary roll in life, but Hans was at the very least reaping the results of having been instrumental in shaping opposition to the direction the dominant religious element in Switzerland was headed. Hans was exiled and was living at Ibersheim in the Pfalz in January 1672. He had left his wife and one of his children with eight grandchildren in Switzerland. He had three children with him. His marriage was not found in the Steffisburg church records and none of his children were baptized at Steffisburg either. This leaves us to wonder just how long he had been in Germany after fleeing Switzerland.[leyda.FTW]
