Monday, April 9, 1956 Rochester Sentinel Hazel Buchanan Pauline Heinzmann and Thomas Lee Meredith Three persons were killed and a high school basketball coarch critically injured early Sunday morning in a head-on crash one mile southwest of Talma on State Road 25, the second such accident in Fulton county in the past eight days. Dead are Mrs. George (Hazel) BUCHANAN, 44, 936 Park street, Rochester, Mrs. Pauline HEINZMANN, 41, R.R. 3, Rochester, and Thomas Lee MEREDITH, 35, R.R. 1, Mentone. All three were killed instantly. Wilbur Lee MEYER, 32, Tippecanoe high school basketball coach, sustained a fractured skull, a fractured leg, severe lacerations, and numerous cuts and bruises. He was rushed to the Woodlawn hospital here and later taken to the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. Meyer was listed as in "serious" condition this morning. Mrs. Buchanan and Meredith were riding in one of the cars and Mrs. Heinzemann and Meyer in the other. Mrs. Buchanan was driving a 1954 Chevrolet and Meyer a 1955 Mercuty. Both cars are a total loss. Sheriff Laurence NORRIS said the Buchanan car swerved into the path of the Meyer vehicle and the two cars met head-on. The tragedy occurrd about 1 a.m. Sheriff Noris said the Meyer vehicle left skid marks for about 43 feet from the point of the impact. No estimate of speed was given by the sheriff. The Meyer-operated vehicle was traveling southwest and the Buchanan-driven car was heading northeast. All three deaths were caused by skull fractures. The deaths Sunday raised Fulton county's highway toll total to six in eight days. Two Logansport persons and an Akron man were killed March 31 on State Road 25 south of Rochester in an accident almost identical with the one early Sunday morning. Mrs. Pauline Velma (KINDIG) HEINZMANN had been a resident of Rochester her entire life. She was a memer of the Eastern Star and the Rochester Trinity E.U.B. church and was employed at Kindig's Floor Covering store, this city, opeatd by her brother, Floyd [KINDIG]. She was born Sept 12. 1914 near Tiodsa to Cleve A. and Ethel EASTERDAY KINDIG. In 1939 she was married to Franz HEINZMANN, who was killed in a circus addident in 1950 at Pueblo, Colo. Survivors include the parents, at home, three sons, Bela, 13, Bondi, 13, and Fritz [HEINZMANN] 6, all at home; two brothers, Virgil [KINDIG], Memphis, Tenn., and Floyd O. [KINDIG], rochester. One brother, Charles [KINDIG], and a son, Errol [HEINZMANN], preceded her in death, Charles in 1928 and Errol in 1941. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Fremont WILLMERT of the Rochester Trinity E.U.B. church, officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today. Hazel Irene McCALLA BUCHANAN was born June 15, 1912, at Wagoner Station in Miami county to Chester and Hulda GILLILAND McCALLA. She had lived in Rochester for the past 27 yeas. She was married at Orleans to George P. BUCHANAN on April 29, 1948. He died in 1952. Mrs. Buchanan is survived by her parents; the maternal gandmother, Mrs. Charles MUTCHLER, Rochester; five sisters, Mrs. Howard (Florence) WOOD; Mrs. Helen HOFFMAN; Mrs. Marjorie MILLER, and Mrs. Barbara CLARK, all of Rochester, and Mrs. Pat RICHARDS, Kokomo; two brothers, Harold and Echo McCALLA, both of Rochester; a nephew, Richard HOFFMAN, who lived with Mrs. Buchanan, and several other nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the Rochester Church of God with the Rev. John CALL, Richmond, officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester mausoleum. Friends may call at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home after 5 o'clock this evening. Thomas Lee MERDITH was born Feb. 12, 1921, at Akron, to Harry and Dessie MEREDITH. He was married to Juanita JONES MEREDITH, who survives. He was employed at the Northern Indiana Co-op Association service station in Mentone. Other survivors are: Two daughters, Marinelle and Tona [MEREDITH], both at home; his parents, of near Mentone; three brothers, Richard [MEREDITH], Akron; Vernon [MEREDITH], Burket; and William [MEREDITH] Fort Wayne; and two sisters, Mrs. Jane EVANS, North Manchester, and Mrs. Willodean SNOW, Baltimore, Md. Friends may call at the Reed funeral home in Mentone today and until noon Wednesday. Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Joe BEAR officiating. Burial will be in the Mentone cemetery.
RNS 1-18-43 HEINZMANN, twin sons Bela Lee and Bondi Lynn Mr. & Mrs. Franz Heinzmann of this city are the parents of twin sons born Saturday afternoon at Woodlawn hospital. The babies have been named Bela Lee and Bondi Lynn. Mrs. Heinzmann was formerly Pauline Kindig.
